Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen were just two of the new faces on the London set of Avengers: Age of Ultron when we visited last June. The duo, who are playing Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, respectively, talked with us about their first foray into the Marvel universe and how their characters will shake up the team’s dynamic. Get a glimpse at the pair in action in the all-new featurette above, and read on to learn four things you should know about the Avengers newcomers and their characters.

Expect Accents

Twins Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch hail from Eastern Europe — which actual or imaginary country Taylor-Johnson and Olsen wouldn’t reveal — and hence worked together on a dialect. “Whether they decide to re-ADR that in the end,” Taylor-Johnson joked, “I don’t know.” It also sounds as though the duo had a lot of creative freedom in developing their accent together. “It’s something we got to create,” Olsen told us.

It’s not quite like Luke finding out Leia’s his sister, but it’s not far off. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen starred in last year’s staggeringly popular Godzilla movie where they played husband and wife (albeit with not a lot of shared screen time) and in one month’s time, we’re going to see them play brother and sister in the behemoth that is Avengers: Age of Ultron, in which they will have plenty of scenes together as Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch respectively. We spoke to the actors, along with several other outlets, during a set visit last year about playing scenes together, creating their characters, and joining the biggest franchise in history. No pressure or anything.

Olsen says it was much easier to play Taylor-Johnson’s twin after coming off playing husband and wife, weirdly. “If you look at the comics,” she says, “the two of them are always so close to each other, that the proximity, their comfortability around each other is so specific, and to the rest of the group. And so it’s nice to know Aaron and it’s also nice to have a friend when you’re joining such a big project like this with potentially intimidating people. It’s been really nice to have Aaron.” And she felt like the two actors had their origin also, even though it was a totally different franchise. “It is nice to feel like we have this; they have their movies, well we had a movie too.”

SuperHeroHype was on the set of Avengers: Age of Ultron, where they interviewed Elizabeth and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Bellow you will find Elizabeth’s interview, but incase you’d like to read Aaron’s interview as well, you can click here.

As we get closer and closer to the release of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron in less than a month in some countries and on May 1 in North America, we’re coming to the end of’s interviews done at London’s Shepperton Studios last summer. Right now, we have interviews with two of the Avengers newcomers, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen, who are playing the siblings Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, better known as Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, although who knows if they’ll be called that in the movie? We spoke to both of them on our first day while sitting in the labs at Avengers Tower, but unfortunately we didn’t get to see any of them in action as they weren’t filming in the scenes we watched.

Later on, we had a chance to talk to Elizabeth Olsen, who first made waves at Sundance movies Martha Marcy May Marlene and the thriller Silent House, but in recent years, has starred in higher profile remakes like Old Boy and Godzilla.

Question: Could you talk about your Eastern European accent?
Elizabeth Olsen:
Can I talk about it? It’s something we got to create because it’s a make-believe place. So it’s something that Aaron [Taylor-Johnson] and I with the dialect coach got to create together.

What’s so fun about talking to someone like Elizabeth Olsen about something as huge and important as “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” is that it’s clear she’s not used to not be able to talk about stuff. The star, who famously starred in “Godzilla” last summer, which had an air of mystery but nothing like the behind-several-locked-doors secrecy of a Marvel movie, seemed genuinely befuddled, as the tried answering question after dweeby question without spoiling anything or getting herself (or others) in trouble. It was one of the more endearing qualities of a movie star made almost exclusively of endearing qualities.

In “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Olsen plays Scarlet Witch, a character more closely associated with the X-Men, but clearly a big part of Avengers lore as well. Her human name is Wanda Maximoff, the twin sister of Pietro Maximoff aka Quicksilver (played in the film by Aaron Taylor-Johnson). Instead of having powers involving punching, kicking, or flying, the Scarlet Witch’s powers involve telekinesis, mind-control, and telepathy. One of the cooler powers (that she fully exploits) is her ability to get into the head of the other Avengers, once again played by Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Jeremy Renner.
